Town Council Considers Revisions to Various Ordinances

At its regular monthly meeting on June 11, the Richey Town Council adopted the second reading of revisions to Ordinance Chapter 12.04, "Street Closures," to delegate approval of street closure permits to the Town’s administration (instead of the Council) to make the process more timely and efficient.
At the same meeting, the Council approved the first readings of (1) proposed updates to the Town’s ordinance pertaining to the water and sewer systems and the provision of water, sewer, and garbage collection services; and (2) Resolution #2024-09 pertaining to the Town’s proposal to implement new and revised water and sewer rates and charges. The public hearings for the second readings of these two documents will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at 6:00 p.m.
Finally, the Council approved the first readings of proposed updates to two Town traffic ordinances: Chapter 10.04, "Traffic Violations by Minors," and Chapter 10.12, "Driving in the Town of Richey." The purpose of these revisions is to align the ordinances with Montana state law and to explicitly allow within Town limits the operation of off-road vehicles, golf carts, and farm equipment (including riding lawn mowers/garden tractors) so long as they are properly registered and/or the driver is properly licensed. The second readings of these two documents will be held during the Council's regular monthly meeting on July 9.
