Garbage Update for June 6

Commercial dumpsters will be fully emptied either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning this week due to G&G truck maintenance. In the meantime, the dumpsters will be partially emptied by hand. All residential totes are being emptied as normal Thursday morning.
FINAL REMINDER: Local Government Review Primary Is Tomorrow, June 4

At tomorrow's primary election, all Town of Richey residents will have the option to vote for or against establishing a study commission to examine the power, form, and plan of the Town’s government and to submit recommendations on the government. Richey is a Commission-Executive (Council-Mayor) form of government, which is by far the most commonly adopted form of municipal government in Montana. The Town Council of the Town of Richey will hold two public hearings on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Office/Fire Hall in conjunction with the Council’s regular monthly meeting.
Driving In Town Limits

NOTICE: Under Montana Code Annotated, a person may not operate/drive any motorized vehicle or off-highway/recreational vehicle on a public highway, road, street, or alleyway unless that person has a valid Montana driver’s license and the vehicle is also licensed and registered. The Town of Richey also has long-standing ordinances that state it is unlawful to drive on the Town’s public-access streets and alleyways without a driver’s license and proper vehicle registration and plates. It is unlawful for minors without valid Montana driver's licenses to operate any motorized vehicle within Town limits. The streets, alleyways, and boulevards of the Town are not for recreational vehicle entertainment. Their purpose is for properly licensed drivers to transport themselves and goods from point A to point B in a responsible manner. They also must be kept open for emergency access of fire trucks and the ambulance.

REMINDER: Local Government Review Primary is June 4

The first major milestone in the Local Government Review election cycle (more detailed information can be found at this link: Scope of Montana’s Local Government Review) is the June 4 primary election, at which all Town of Richey residents will have the option to vote for or against establishing a study commission to examine the power, form, and plan of the Town’s government and to submit recommendations on the government. Richey is a Commission-Executive (Council-Mayor) form of government, which is by far the most commonly adopted form of municipal government in Montana. If the majority vote is "against," then that will be the end of this cycle for Richey. If the majority vote is "for," then interested study commission candidates can file for the three commission positions, and all Town of Richey residents can vote for their candidate of choice at the November 5 general election. Town Council Working Session To Review Draft Utilities Ordinance On May 21

The Richey Town Council will hold a working session on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Office/Fire Hall. The purpose of the working session is to review and discuss the current draft of the proposed utilities ordinance for the Town of Richey. No other Town business will be conducted.

Roll-Off Container Now Available For Yard Waste

To support the Town's upcoming annual clean-up week, a 30-foot roll-off dumpster in which residents of Richey can dispose of their yard waste is now available behind the Town Office.

As we mentioned in our Spring 2024 Newsletter, the Local Government Review election cycle has begun. The broad purpose of this review is to determine whether the residents of Richey want to establish--and pay for--a local government study commission to examine the power, form, and plan of the Town’s government and to submit recommendations on the government.
